Unique Rock the Pistes Music Festival Announces Mountainside Gigs By Text Message

Bands from all over Europe will be hitting the slopes of the Alps for the Rock the Pistes music festival this spring. The festival will take place in the ski resort area of Portes du Soleil, which straddles the border of France and Switzerland. What makes this festival unique is that attendees will be alerted of the location of the gigs just twenty four hours prior by text message.

The Portes du Soleil is a linked ski area that encompasses a massive 650-kilometres, and a whopping twelve ski resorts between France and Switzerland. Resorts include eight in France: Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz and St-Jean d'Aulps, and four in Switzerland: Champery, Morgins, Torgon and Val d'Illiez–Les Crosets-Champoussin.

Visitors to any of these resorts can simply register online on the Rock the Pistes website to receive information about the musical performances. One day before the events take place, text messages with the locations and times of gigs will be sent to visitors’ mobile phones.

Performance locations range from stunning mountain ledges, sunny slope-side clearings and after-ski restaurants and bars. Even better, all events are free for those with a lift pass to any of the resorts in the area. The concert will take place from March 24 to March 28, 2012.
