The small capital city of Belarus is rich in Soviet culture and mystique. This is where the headquarters of the KBG Building resides, and the neoclassical Soviet architecture of the city reflects its past political leanings. But this city is on the up an up. After being partially destroyed during World War II, Minsk has risen from the ashes and is well on its way to becoming a stylish and modern centre. Rent a holiday apartment here and visit the trendy coffee shops where baristas serve cappuccinos and lattes to fashionable patrons. Sushi bars are plentiful, as are pubs and nightclubs playing the latest in electronic music. During the summer, there are pleasant green parks to picnic in, attractive churches to visit, and wide leafy avenues to meander down. Book a holiday rental in the winter, and partake in exhilarating winter sports such as ice skating, snowboarding and skiing. Winter is also a great time to visit to see the shops and residences in town lit up in soft golden hues. Despite the bleak history of this tiny capital city, Minsk is a great place to get off the beaten track.
