| About the Area: | With 27 kilometres of coastline and 24 different beaches to choose from Marbella has something for everyone. Whether you're into jet-ski-ing, sailing, star-spotting, balloon flights, cable ski-ing or simply enjoying some of the best fresh seafood in the world you'll find it all at Marbella's seafront and watersports centres. Stroll along the famous Golden Mile and dine at some of the most sumptuous (and expensive) restaurants that the Mediterranean has to offer. Or visit one of the many "chiringuitos" - the beach bars that pepper this stretch of coastline, serving much-needed cold drinks and delicious food to summer visitors. If you're a sucker for seafood try their fresh char-grilled sardines. To die for! Most of the beaches are well served with all the usual "essentials" like foot baths, lifeguards, children's play areas, sun loungers, sunshades and a variety of watersports - jet skis, pedaloes, wind surfers and banana rides. On the road from Marbella to Fuengirola, just beyond the Marbella arch, you'll find Funny Beach where you can enjoy go-karting and all the usual water sports as well as some more adventurous activities such as parasailing. Divers (and would-be underwater adventurers) should pay a visit to the Happy Diver's Club at the Atalaya Park Hotel beach which has great views of both Gibraltar and the Moroccan coast. For a great family day out visit the Parque Acuatico at nearby Mijas near Fuengirola where you'll be able to enjoy the wave pool, kamikaze slides, water chutes, adventure river and full programme of live entertainment, water aerobics and beach volleyball contests. Or pop along the coast to Benalmadena to the Sea Life Centre where you'll find more than 100 marine species, touch pools, a ray tank and a Mediterranean reef with anemones and starfish. Walk through the glass tunnel and surround yourself with sharks, moray eels and barracuda. |
