The Charming City of Istanbul

Istanbul is both the cultural and physical bridge between Europe and Asia. It is also Turkey’s most populous city and main cultural and economic centre.

Istanbul is a city of great and fascinating history. Established as an ancient Greek colony, later the imperial city of Constantinople (the name the city bore at those times) was for nearly ten centuries the last remaining part of the Roman Empire. It was then seized by the Ottomans in 1453 and became the center for military campaigns aiming at expanding the Ottoman Empire. About a century later, Istanbul had turned into the main cultural, political, and commercial center of the Ottoman Empire. In 1923, the Republic of Turkey was born and the capital was moved to the city of Ankara. In spite of that, Istanbul continued to develop and expand dramatically.

Istanbul is an enchanting and charming city and a perfect destination for an unforgettable holiday. Visitors can choose among an array of accommodation options, including hotels, tourist complexes, rental villas and apartments in Istanbul and its surrounding areas.

Because of its rich history, Istanbul offers a great variety of historic and religious places of interest. Most of these monuments date back to Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. Some of the most prominent of them include the Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque), Basilica Cistern, the Church of St. Savior in Chora (Kariye Müzesi).

Istanbul comprises several districts and these are:

-        Sultanahmet (the Old City), where most of the famous historical sites are located;

-      Galata – home to vibrant nightlife, many interesting sights and accommodations;

-        The New City – the business heart of Istanbul and a great place for shopping;

-       Bosphorus – with its palaces, parks and gorgeous villas;

-       Golden Horn – with its Ottoman ambience;

-       Princes’ Islands – an archipelago of nine islands;

-       Asian Side – with its lovely neighborhoods at the Marmara and Bosphorus coasts;

-       and the Western Suburbs

An essential part of each trip round Istanbul is a visit to a Turkish bath (or hamam in Turkish). At least one historical hamam can be found in each district of Istanbul. You can try only the Hamam which is more like a sauna, or even try the scrubbing and the massage.

Another typical and must try experience in Istanbul is the nargile, (the Turkish water pipe). In the past it was the centre of Istanbul’s social and political life and still today it’s a favourite pleasure for many locals. You can choose among a variety of flavours and smoke the nargile in many places of the city.

Discover Antalya, Turkey

Antalya is the biggest seaside resort in Turkey and is situated on the Mediterranean coast of the south-western part of the country.  A legend says it that Pergamon king Attalos II and his men, in the 2nd century BC, went on a conquest to find the “heaven on earth”. After a long and tiresome journey, they discovered the region of Antalya: King Attalos established the city and named it “Attaleia”, which evolved in Turkish first as Adalia and later Antalya. That after all is just a legend and no one knows for sure whether it’s true or not. Besides some archaeological remains lead to the conclusion that the city was founded much earlier.

The economy of Antalya is based mainly on tourism, agriculture (citrus fruits, cotton, flowers, olives, olive oils and bananas), trade, and some small industries. Since 2000, shipyard, specialized in building of luxury yachts, have been launched in Antalya.

There can be found several themed 5 to 7 star hotels, particularly in the Kundu area. Most of these hotels are copies of prominent places around the world (such as Kremlin and Venice); and for this reason, the area is known as “Las Vegas in Turkey”. Konyaati is located beneath the Kaleiçi and it stretches miles in westward direction, the beaches varying from sand to gravel. Here are situated several international hotels, such as Sheraton; and an array of tourist facilities can be enjoyed.
