The Second Smallest Independent State in the World

Author evelyn    Category Home, Monaco     Tags ,

Though many people associate the tiny principality of Monaco with the French Azure Coast, the only thing Monaco has in common is that it lies along the Mediterranean coast not far from the rest of the French coastal resorts and has a common land border with France. Apart from French, Monegasque is the second official language and is widely spoken by the locals.

In fact, Monaco is the second smallest independent state in the world. Only Vatican is smaller. Despite its small size it’s the world’s most densely populated state. That, of course, can be explained with its superb locations, excellent climate, numerous sporting and cultural events and last but not least its tax free status. A curious fact is that local residents are not allowed to gamble despite the great gambling facilities available.

Brief Guide to Monaco

Author evelyn    Category Home, Monaco     Tags ,

Here is a brief guide to those who plan to visit Monaco for the first time. The principality comprises four districts.

Monaco-Ville is the capital of Monaco. That’s the old part of the city. Locals usually refer to it as the ‘Rock’ as it is literally situated on a rocky headland. Here you can find the Royal Palace, the home of the Grimaldis.

Monte Carlo is the most famous of the four districts and that is mainly because of the glamorous Monte Carlo Casino or ‘Place du Casino’.

The business heart of Monaco is La Condamine. That’s the area near the Port. Banks, offices, open-air markets, as well as the train station can be found there.

Fontvieille or the newest of all districts, is designed to accommodate industrial and residential facilities.
