South African Airways expands into the Asian market and promote tourism
On January 31, 2012 South African Airways made its first ever non-stop flight from Johannesburg, South Africa to Beijing, China. The 15-hour, direct flights are now available three times a week from the airline.
The move to start non-stop flights was an effort on the part of South African Airways to expand into the Asian market and to promote tourism and trade between the two nations. China and South Africa have recently entered into bilateral agreements for cooperation in a number of areas including infrastructure, transportation, health and education. The new routes between the two countries should help to encourage business and leisure travel in both China and South Africa.
South Africa is a popular travel destination for Chinese travellers as well as visitors from Europe, North America and South America.
