Carnival Season Begins in the Dominican Republic

February marks the beginning of the carnival season in the Dominican Republic. This exciting and fun-filled time of year runs from February to April every year. The following months will be filled with bright and colourful costumes, lively parades, and non-stop music and dancing.

The most famous carnival takes place in La Vega. La Vega is located an hour and a half north of the capital city of Santo Domingo. During the month of February tour operators across the island will be arranging Sunday tours to the town so tourists can take part in the festivities.

Over the coming months, cities across the island will be holding their own special celebrations, with street parties, dance performances and of course, animated Caribbean rhythms. The biggest event will be the National Carnival Parade, which takes place in Santo Domingo in March.
